Tan lines are one of those things you don’t think about until they’re staring you right in the
face. This client came in for a bridal trial, strapless dress planned, big summer wedding
ahead. She sat down, pulled her hair back, and there it was: a blinding tan line cutting straight
across her chest.
She laughed nervously and said, ‘Can you cover that?’ like it was no big deal. Meanwhile, my brain was already calculating how many layers of body makeup it would take to even it out. Face makeup? Easy. Chest and shoulders? That’s a whole other battlefield.
I grabbed body foundation, mixed shades, and started buffing like a painter on deadline. It helped — a little. But the line was so sharp, it kept peeking through no matter how much blending I did. We both stared at the mirror, hoping it would somehow disappear. Spoiler: it didn’t.
In the end, I softened it enough that it wouldn’t scream in photos, but in person? Still visible. She sighed, and I reminded her to prep before the wedding: either even out the tan, spray tan properly, or embrace it. Makeup can work miracles, but erasing a tan line completely isn’t one of them.
Lesson learned: always ask about tan lines during trials. Because the last thing you want is to fight with nature’s version of color-blocking ten minutes before photos.
