Some makeup artists avoid mirrors during sessions for a reason: mid-process reveals can
spark chaos. This client proved exactly why.

We were halfway through her look — foundation blended, brows shaped, one eye done —
when she suddenly glanced into the side mirror. What she saw wasn’t transformation; it was
panic fuel. “Why do I look like this? This isn’t what I wanted!”

I froze for half a second, then reminded myself: unfinished makeup always looks worse before
it looks better. The problem wasn’t the makeup — it was timing. But convincing her of that in
the moment? Different story.

I had a choice: let her spiral, or steer the energy. I calmly explained that the look was
incomplete and needed finishing touches to come together. Still, her doubt filled the room, and I had to choose my strategy fast.
